I like good writing as much as anyone, but, hell, even Mark Twain could do with a bit of editing now and then, and don't even get me started on why Shakespeare's plays are always cut by directors who want to put on a production shorter than a Russian novel....

I'm not saying you should shorten your bio to attract more guys at all. I am saying that I have yet to see a perfect bio. Hell, my bio could certainly use someone else to look it over, see where it's lacking, needs editing, needs more or less verbiage, etc., etc.

Ever look at the acknowledgements for non-fiction works? 90% of those will have thank-you's listing everyone who looked over all or parts of the book for content and general comments - and those are professional authors who get paid the Big Bucks for writing. That's all I'm saying: not to improve your love life, not to catch more guys, not to prove you're a swell, neat, peachy keen, warm woman. Just to see if what you've said matches well with what you want to say.

And that applies to quite a few of us; it's not directed at just you, it's directed at all you generic-you's, too.

(By the way, I don't think your profile is too harsh. You're quite right, there are quite a few complete jerks hanging around here. Hell, some days I may be one of them. Anything you can do to get them away from you is fine by me - not that you need my approval, but there it is.

I think it could be a tad shorter, but that's because that's the way I am. I've always preferred Twain over Tolstoy, E.B. White over James Fenimore Cooper. Not necessarily because I'd be more attracted to you; but because I'm accustomed to nice, short, straight English over nice, long English.)

Whether someone else thinks my profile could be shorter is not the point. I very explicitly say "do not tell me how to improve my profile" right there in the first paragraph.

I don't care if it's not "perfect" and I don't care if someone doesn't like it. I don't want to hear it, and I state, very clearly, what happens when someone does tell me.

I would agree that few profiles are perfect, but there are ways of saying that that are not rude like the one above. It's true he didn't request any deletions, he *ordered* editing. Rude.

Plus, I don't really think profile style is something for random strangers to comment on uninvited - as joreth mentions, part of the reason for a profile is so viewers can work out whether or not it's worth their time & others' to get in touch.

My profile is really long & detailed; this is intentional - it puts off people who can't be bothered to read it or see something they object to & it attracts the kind of people I'm more likely to be interested in. Why someone (like Kelian) who doesn't fit into that category thinks I'd care about their opinion is beyond me.
