So, I've been out of work since the middle of December, partly because I took two weeks off to go to CA, but also because I just don't have any work right now.
My natural sleeping rhythm has had time to reassert itself. I really am a "night person", contrary to my mother's belief that I will "grow out of it" once I just put myself on a "normal schedule". As I spent time in CA, by the first night, I had adjusted to PST version of "late night", staying up until what would have been my sunrise. Then, flying back to FL, I took a redeye flight with 2 layovers, so I got less than 3 hours sleep total, and that was broken. When I landed, I didn't get to take a nap because I immediately spent the afternoon socializing with my sweetie
tacit and his other sweetie and her other sweetie and his other sweetie ... poly goodness. So, after a couple hours of that, I drove 3 hours back home, then got on the computer to catch up. I had moments of sleepyness during the day, but as soon as it got dark, I got energized again. Sometime around dawn the next day I finally got tired.
So, since then, I have been unable to sleep until it starts to lighten outside, then I'm out like a rock. I sleep naturally for about 6 hours, then wake up quickly, no alarm, full of energy and in a good mood. I am so a night-person!
So I came back from CA full of project ideas, and I suddenly find myself with both the time and energy to start work on them.

So I came back from CA full of project ideas, and I suddenly find myself with both the time and energy to start work on them.
First, I updated my Stagehand Tees site and started on a huge marketing push that includes free shipping for this month and already I have doubled my profit for this quarter.
Next, I added lots of pictures to my website, including my CA trip pictures, several more costume pages, and I got rid of the image on my main page (that I stole from the web about 7 years ago) and replaced it with an image completely of my own creation. I also replaced the sign on my home splashpage with something that looks a little more realistic. Since I don't consider myself a graphic artist, and in fact I usually avoid doing my own graphics work (prefering photography to other forms of art), I'm rather pleased with it.
Excessive computer work wasn't quite active enough to use up all my energy, and my brain was spinning with ideas and just wouldn't slow down, so I next started on my upcoming costume plans.
First is planning for my Birthday Party, so I've been doing some costume planning for that. And after Dickens Fair, I really want to create a Victorian costume, so I've been planning and thinking about that too.
Then, the more complicated costuming project, a set of Twin Evil Elf costumes. I don't want to give too many details, because I want to wait until the costumes are done and unveiled in public, but I will give a brief history. I had so much fun making my Baroness costume, that I decided I must find more reasons to make clothing out of liquid latex. So I saw a character in a music video with an outfit that I thought was really cool and I thought it would be great to attempt to do in latex. It will require an airbrusher to do the flame design over the latex, but I happen to know one! The character, I found out, is a Night Elf from World of Warcraft, but I didn't care about that, it was her outfit that I liked. Well, when
corpsefairy's friends met me for the first time, they all unanimously agreed that I was her evil twin. Her nickname is the Evil Elf. So, we decided we must come up with some kind of Evil Elf and her Evil Twin costume. On a flash of inspiration, I melded the Night Elf and Elf Twin concepts and came up with Fire and Ice Elf Twins for myself and
corpsefairy! Other than the themes of Fire and Ice, I'm going to leave the details a surprise for now. Except for the weapons!
Since
corpsefairyis the Evil Elf and I'm a, quote, "badass version of her" (who is herself pretty badass), we can't go with anything cutesy or sexy (in the lace french-maid or anime school girl sort of way, which is totally not in character for me anyway), so we're focusing on the badass part, which means cool weapons. Of course, my version of "badass" includes lots of skin or form-fitting outfits, which is sexy in a "hot chicks with guns" kinda way. Being broke, and not finding the weapons I wanted anyway, I decided to build my own weapons. So I picked up some modeling clay and I have sculpted fire and ice daggers, and the arrowhead original, for which I hope to make molds and then make weapons out of some cool material like tinted poly-resin. I don't know if it'll work, but I am quite pleased with the clay "originals"!

*bounce bounce* so now I'm all excited and feeling accomplished, and I can't WAIT to get started on the next step in both my Elf costumes and my birthday party stuff!
Yay! Projects!

Date: 1/12/07 09:56 pm (UTC)From:My childhood was full of boring picture taking until I started asking for it not to be, because my father enjoys photography. And I had serious issues with the way I looked when I was younger. The memory of the former is getting older and the issues of the latter are getting lesso (not due to any self-esteem sort of thing, but because the way I look is becoming more okay to me. It's not about "pretty" or "ugly". I just always looked "wrong" to myself, and I think as I get older, my physical image looks less wrong to me, so I'm more okay with it.)
