So I followed a link from someone else's journal to a GLBT (or at least glbt-friendly) editorial website and it told a story about Topless Baristas.

Apparently, some woman went through the drive through of a coffee shop called (yes, actually named) Hot Chick-A-Latte where the serving girls (I assume - there was no mention of men) serve your coffee topless.  The woman at the drive through was wearing pasties, so no nipples were showing, but the woman complained because her kids were in the car with her and saw boobies.

I could rant and rave about this, but the article actually does a wonderful job of being sarcastic for me.  The author describes the woes that befall children when they are exposed to body parts and how damaging nipples can be to a young, impressionable child.  Not to mention our god-given right to walk into a Hooters or Hot-Chick-A-Latte and not be assaulted by the sight of boobs!

If you don't want to see scantily clad women, don't go to Chick-a-Latte. That's their marketing schtick. They even have full-length windows instead of windows that only show the servers from the chest up, for greater ease of ogling.

I've been to the drive-through, and my barista was wearing hot pants and a skimpy top, but was not actually anywhere close to naked.

Exactly! I have a personal opinion that this kind of sheltering of children is actually more harmful than exposure to the human body, but in order to protect my own right to teach my kids what I think they should know, I have to allow those fucked up parents the same right.

But, if you're gonna have those kinds of values, don't go to places that are transparent about sex being a marketing technique. It't not that complicated, really.

I'm not sure how you "not notice" a coffee shop called Hot Chick-A-Latte.

I've heard comments from parents who are scandalized at something their kids saw, and they weren't exactly horrified at the idea that their kids were exposed to it - the comments were along the lines of "how am I supposed to explain this to them?"

What they're really afraid of is being uncomfortable themselves in explaining sex to kids. Cuz, y'know, they didn't sign up for the job of teaching difficult subjects to young, impressionable minds when they got knocked up or anything.

As an ex barrista. I must salute those women and not just the ooo boobies pants based salute but the emotional kind like with the hand. As damn I don't want anything to do with the foaming attachment with out something between me and the high pressure steam. Those women are putting their very boobies on the line to both titillate and caffeinate me and for that I salute them.
