I just love this paragraph:

Which got me thinking about a phenomenon of "gender enforcement" that I vaguely remember babbling about in a psychology paper before I'd earned my license and set to work blotting out my education with as much alcohol as possible. The worst culprits of "doing gender," I argued, were generally those of the gender in question themselves. Those 'girl/boy police' in the playground that someone so insightfully mentioned in said argument, well, they grew up and they're still around. The worst enemy of a progressive woman's identity is other women. A man OR woman with a flexible identity raises the bar for everyone else, causes people to ask themselves icky questions about their own limitations and identity, and generally creates more philosophical work for people, and in general, the modern homo sapiens enjoys thinking about as much as a rotating-blade enema, which is to say that aside from a few freaks on some MMO who have made a fetish out of it, they avoid it like the fucking plague.

Discuss.

I'll give you a Disney quote, "We don't like what we don't understand, in fact, it scares us. And this monster is mysterious at least."
