According to Editor & Publisher, Obama now has a 3 to 1 lead over McCain in newspaper endorsements -- 51 newspapers with a total 6,299,363 daily circulation. At least seven of those papers endorsed President Bush in 2004.
McCain Using Same Robocall Firm That Helped Smear Him In 2000 - yes, the same company that George W. Bush used in the North Carolina primaries to basically phone-spam voters and "smear" McCain, for which he expressed public outrage, is now being employed by McCain himself for the very same smear campaign against Obama. Maverick: doing the exact same thing as one's party stipulates, particularly the most heinous or the actions most disliked by the voters one is serving.
Racist 'N-Word' Robocall Reported In Pennsylvania - "The third party call was interactive, and purported to be from Barack Obama himself. The call starts out reasonably, and then "Obama" asks what the listener thinks is the most important issue. Whatever the response, "Obama" then launches into a profane and crazed tirade using "n***er" and other shock language."
Palin Office Wants $15 Million For Emails - Sarah Palin has offered to sell emails from the governer's office that the media have been clamoring for. Not until after the election, of course.
And the shocking video of hatred and racism at a Palin rally:
Some of the more offensive bits were:
- The guy holding a fucking stuffed MONKEY with an Obama bumper sticker on his forehead, telling us it was "Little Hussein" and cackling.
- The most absurd connection between Obama and Osama (the only difference is BS). It's a fucking name that his parents gave him, for fuck's sake, it has nothing to do with his politics or religious beliefs!
- Someone shouting "Hussein Muhammed Obama!" Aside from the previous comment about his name not having anything to do with his politics or religion, Muslims make up a huge population in the world and as legitimate American citizens.
- Someone shouting "Obama bin Laden".
- That same asshole shouting "born in Kenya, citizen of Indonasia" (I'm sure he meant Indoneysia). Uh, hello, he was born in Hawaii, that's a matter of public record.
- "Kill some more babies you bastard!" Same guy.
- "Kill the babies! Abortion after they're born!" Different guy this time.
- "If he gets in office, he's gonna have not a cross-section of America in his cabinet. It's gonna be Al Sharpton, Rev. Wright, Jesse Jackson" Can we say racist?
- A guy grabbing his dick and yelling "Kiss my lipstick!"
I outright fear and loath Sarah Palin and I'm pretty afraid of McCain too, but I might develop a glimmer of respect for them if they or their "official campaign" would make a statement discouraging this kind of behaviour.
Oh, wait, they can't. They're the ones who started spreading the rumors and lies and half-truths this hatred is built upon.

But feel encouraged. It only works because it's uncommon for people to be so G*d damned stupid.

Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), as defined by the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), is a psychiatric diagnosis that describes a condition in which a single person displays multiple distinct identities or personalities (known as alter egos or alters), each with its own pattern of perceiving and interacting with the environment. The diagnosis requires that at least two personalities routinely take control of the individual's behavior with an associated memory loss that goes beyond normal forgetfulness; in addition, symptoms cannot be due to substance abuse or medical condition. Earlier versions of the DSM named the condition multiple personality disorder (MPD), and the term is still used by the ICD-10. There is controversy around the existence, the possible causes, the prevalence across cultures, and the epidemiology of the condition.
Individuals with DID demonstrate a variety of symptoms with wide fluctuations across time; functioning can vary from severe impairment in daily functioning to normal or high abilities. Symptoms can include:
multiple mannerisms, attitudes and beliefs that are dissimilar to each other; headaches and other body pains; distortion or loss of subjective time; depersonalization; amnesia; depression.
Patients may experience an extremely broad array of other symptoms that resemble epilepsy, schizophrenia, anxiety, mood disorders, post traumatic stress, personality, and eating disorders.
I actually know a person in real life who believes he has this.
Neither classification really fits what we're trying to say about McCain, although the "eratic" and "inconsistant" might fit DID if his various personalities were randomly switching around and making statements.
The closest I could come up with was Borderline Personality Disorder or Antisocial Personality Disorder, and even that's not accurate:
Antisocial personality disorder is a mental illness that involves a pattern of disregard for or violation of the rights of others. Deceit and manipulation to gain personal profit or pleasure are common behaviors by people with this disorder.
A person with antisocial personality disorder fails to conform to social norms and may repeatedly participate in destructive, illegal activity, such as property damage, cruelty to animals, setting fires, or harassing others. Important decisions, such as ending a relationship or changing a job, may be made suddenly and without much consideration about the consequences.
Those with antisocial personality disorder tend to be irritable and aggressive and may repeatedly get into physical fights or physically or verbally abuse another person such as a spouse or child. Irresponsible work behavior and financial habits are common. Little remorse is shown for harmful behaviors.
Borderline Personality Disorder is characterized by intense emotions and mood swings. Impulsive behaviors that are self-damaging, such as substance abuse, binge eating, and reckless driving.

Really, I think he's just an asshole politician out for his own best interests who has a very low opinion of the rest of the population, believing that we will not be able to do our own research and that we will vote for a candidate based on her genitals. This tells me more about him, really, and how he thinks.
