I'm not sure I understand. The article you link to states that if anything happens to Palin, McCain will become president.
Frankly, McCain, while a horrible candidate, is far less scary than Palin herself.
But you state "if Gov. Palin is elected to national office", so that implies to me that you are claiming no one is talking about the fact that if anything happens to McCain, Palin will become president.
And if you haven't heard anyone talk about that, then you haven't been listening. That's what the phrase "heartbeat away from the presidency" means. I've certainly ranted about that, as has my sweetie zen_shooter and just about any other anti-Palin critic.
But if you're afraid that Palin will become a martyr and that will put McCain in power ... well, I don't like McCain, but he's less dangerous without her. At least McCain himself didn't choose her.
