Thanks to [profile] dancergeek for the links!

Two very exciting news bits with some tentative breakthroughs in science.  They're not definate, testing needs to be done in both occasions, but the preliminary discoveries are very exciting and I am hopeful!

http://blog.wired.com/wiredscience/2008/06/gene-editing-co.html - Scientists discover a gene editing process that makes certain proteins resistant to certain HIV strains

http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2008/06/20/2280659.htm - Melanoma patient in complete regression after doctor injects him with his own cloned T-cells

Oh, and you might not want to read the comments if unintelligible posts with bad spelling and grammar spouting off about how we shouldn't be mucking about with gene manipulations because I Am Legend showed us it can only lead to flesh-eating zombies.

While flesh-eating zombies are usually good for my entertainment dollar, avoiding experimentation of cures for our biggest natural killers because of a mediocre blockbuster thriller is the height of irresponsibility and stupidity.
