**Forwarded from one of my poly mailing lists**

As part of my doctoral program in human sexuality, I am required to have a basic survey completed by a sub-group of the population. Given that my doctoral dissertation will be addressing polyamorous relationships, it only makes sense for me to choose the polyamory community as my sub-group.

I am currently involved in 3 different poly listservs so I'm hoping that my fellow poly folks can be of assistance to me. If you, or someone you know, identifies as polyamorous (regardless of your current relational configuration)... I would really appreciate your help in completing this project. Please feel free to forward this email to anyone you know who identifies as poly... and who would be interested in filling out the survey.

The survey is located at:

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Warm regards.

Some of the questions were awkwardly worded, so I answered based on what I wanted to portray.  For instance, one question asked if I thought everyone had the right to freedom of sexual expression (only consensual) and if this right should be made available to people who are disabled, and a bunch of other things.  For the most part I agree, but one of the groups included here were incarcerated prisoners.  Since incarcerated prisoners, by definition, have their civil rights removed or restricted, then I don't think they should be included in the right to total free, consensual, sexual expression.  But it's a rather complicated subject that can't really be answered by a check-yes-or-no box.  So I answered it affirmatively because I *do* believe in the right of free expression for all people in general and I didn't want to check no to everyone else.

Another one asks about anal sex between men and women.  I have not had anal sex performed on me, but I have performed anal sex on men with a strapon.  The question does not clarify which partner is the catcher and which is the pitcher, but I answered affirmatively anyway.

This is typical of student surveys - they haven't had the experience in survey writing, or the feedback from their target audience to write their questions well, but I'm in favor of supporting ALL research into alternative lifestyles.  The more student studies there are on the subject, the more notice we will get from the academic culture so, hopefully, that will spark the academics to stand up and take notice of us.

Some of us activists believe that one of the key paths to social acceptance is through the academic circles.  When there is research done, legitimately peer-reviewed papers and books, we become a "legitimate" group, not just those freaks that the normals see on Jerry Springer.  When we become a legitimate group, it becomes harder to make public policy that discriminates against us and easier for friends, family and neighbors to leave us alone and accept us - not to mention easier to find for those seeking people of like minds!

There's a debate in the OKCupid forums about gender roles.

And this one idiot had the temerity to say that there are some gender roles that will be around forever.  So I challenged him to tell me what I am not suited for, having never met me, based simply on my genitals.

He cited Nascar.

I had to rip him a new one, particularly since I am actually quite a good race car driver.

But he keeps going:

Anyone else want to do some schoolin'?

SUBJECT: Fuck Off!

After 28 years in the lifestyle and countless bullshit being posted. I agree with Fuck Off. However, Who the fuck are you?
I have been in clubs, dungeons and meetings throughout the country. Never saw you.
That being said, you can do what you want. I give you permission <weg>

Your email makes absolutely no sense.

First, what does my introduction to my profile have to do with you being into BDSM?  At least, I assume you mean BDSM from your use of "the lifestyle" since you mention dungeons, but since swingers also use that phrase, it's possible you could be referring to swinging too.  My profile starts out with a list of people for whom contacting me would be a waste of both of our times.  That has absolutely nothing to do with BDSM except that certain individuals who happen to notice that I'm into it are assholes and I wish for them to not contact me.  I'm glad you agree with the intro to my profile, but the rest of your email does not follow.

Second, your visitations to clubs, dungeons and meetings throughout the country have, of course, given you access to every single person interested in BDSM in the country, right?  It's not possible that perhaps you were there simply on a night I wasn't, or that you might have missed some of the hundreds, if not thousands, of clubs, dungeons and meetings that exist?  Not to mention those people who play privately and feel no need attend public gatherings.  Who I am is an adult who has the right to make my own boundaries and choose the method that makes said boundaries perfectly clear.  Who the fuck are you to question who I am?

Third, I am a consenting, legal adult in a free society and therefore do not need anyone's permission for a great many things that I choose to do, let alone yours.  I am also not a sub, so I do not require permission within a BDSM context, and even if I had been a sub, I am not *your* sub.  Your permission is not required nor desired.
