We're related to monkeys?!?
Apr. 20th, 2008 08:58 pmNow, I knew that this had been done, but I never bothered to actually learn the details of *what* had been done. I knew that the human and ape genomes had been sequenced and that we have the abiliity to compare them. I also knew the conclusions were that we are very, very similar, enough to "prove" that we have a common ancester. But I never bothered to actually learn what that was.
So I'm sharing this video here because I don't think many people have YouTube accounts and, whether they do or not, don't visit my Favorites to see what I've favorited. And this is something worth sharing - if you didn't know it, watch it. If you did know it, here's a convenient video to make your point to others.
*UPDATE*
I had to add this, but I didn't think I needed to fill up everyone's friends lists with another post.
I'm watching the NOVA documentary that someone recommended below in the comments. It is about the landmark case of the Dover School Board trying to slip creationism into science classes. The main body of the case is that Intelligent Design violates our constitutional rights of separation of church and state. So, even though the documentary really focuses on the actual science behind evolution and the so-called science behind ID, the case really was more about whether ID was religion or not, since the IDiots continue to claim that it's a "scientific theory" and not merely creationism repackaged.
SCIENCE HAS FOUND THE MISSING LINK BETWEEN CREATIONISM AND INTELLIGENT DESIGN!
Basically, someone looked through every single revision of an ID biology text book (the one they tried to slip into the school district of this particular case) and found that everywhere the first draft said "creation", the next draft said "intelligent design" or some variation thereof.
And, just to hammer in the last nail in the coffin, the editors were sloppy about their revisions. In one place, the original word said:
CREATIONISTS
In another place, was the phrase:
CDESIGN PROPONENSTISTS
If you take the word "creationist", and try to delete it, but are not careful about highlighting the whole word, you might get something like this:
creationists -> c [reation] ists -> c [design proponent] ists -> cdesign proponenstists
And once again, science trumps religion by finding the evolution of Creationism to Intelligent Design.
I love science and irony, but to have them both at the same time is nearly orgasmic :-D
