joreth: (Dobert Demons of Stupidity)
I received this in my email from my dad, who likes to send me silly jokes occasionally.  They're usually pretty harmless, and they're not that often, so I tend to ignore them.  But I felt like commenting on this one:

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY...

Women are like phones:
They like to be held, talked to, and touched often.
But push the wrong button and your ass is disconnected.

I responded with "Funny, it's been my experience that men are like this too".

I really wish people would stop perpetuating the stereotype that all women are the same and all men are the same, but women and men are fundamentally different from each other.  We're not.  There is more variation among women, and more variation among men, than the difference between the average of men and women for any given trait or category.

I know it's a joke.  But it relies upon people thinking it's true for its humor value.  And that frustrates me.
